Picking the right kind of care

With so many options available, it can be tricky to immediately identify the best type of care for yourself or a loved one. Follow the steps below to help identify what care would suit your situation best.

Communicate with family

The first step in the process is communication. Speak to the resident about how they would feel the benefit of care. What tasks do they struggle with? What challenges do they face? Communication is key to understanding what the best course of action would be.

It’s also worth speaking to family members or friends who spend a lot of time with the resident. Have they noticed particular difficulties with certain tasks? Come up with a proposition with the resident and see what they think.

Discuss with the professionals

Once you have an idea of what kind of services might be helpful, it’s time to talk to the professionals. Our friendly team can talk to you about the kind of care we think might be helpful – and there’s no obligation to book with us! Call us on 01902 341414 or 07474442444 and we can discuss the possible next steps.

It’s important to mention any medical complaints or medication when speaking to the professionals, as this will dictate certain aspects of the type of care needed. Don’t be afraid to ask for exactly what you think is needed: whether that’s a clean once a month, or daily care – we can help!

Research the right company

Once you’ve spoken to the professionals, it’s vital that you choose a company that you are comfortable with. We’d recommend picking a care company like Carers to you, who offer a specific carer for the resident. We find it’s conducive to building rapport and ensuring the resident’s comfort, if the carer who visits is always the same.

Compare costs and make sure you know what you’re getting for your money: cheaper care isn’t always better value for money, as the carers may be less well-trained and empathetic, and may have huge pressure between jobs so be unable to spend as much time with yourself or your loved one.
