Preparing for home care
Here at Carers to you, we completely understand that the decision to get at home care is not one that is taken lightly. We know that often an event triggers the need – such as a diagnosis, bereavement or injury. As such, we would encourage communication between the family and the resident to discuss what would be the best care package, going forward.
Communication
We know it can be a sensitive topic but try to have a gentle but frank conversation with the resident about your concerns, and how you think an at home care package could benefit them. Would they benefit from a weekly clean? Or a daily assist with medication? Perhaps you’re worried about them at night and would like a night-time carer? Once you’ve had a chat, why not call us on 01902 341414 or 07474442444? We can provide expert information and reassurance for both you and your loved one!
Preparation
Once you’ve decided on the right care package for you or your loved one, you’ll need to prepare for your home visit. Depending on the package, our carers can take care of many domestic issues, so there’s no need to clean or tidy! Do make sure however, that any medication needing to be administered is clearly labelled and has instructions with it. If a family member would like to be present at the first visit, we would be delighted to meet you! This will ensure that you’re comfortable and that any specific details can be explained in person.
Understanding
Going forward, as the home visits continue, Carers to you operate on a basis of empathy and understanding, and it’s best if you do too! We know that residents’ needs often change, so make sure that you are open to amending the care package, as their individual needs alter.
